Rumney 2nd continue their run of form

Rumney 2nds were without a fixture due to Cup games and Risca II's provided the opposition at short notice. Many thanks Risca!

Rumney got off to a great start taking play into the Risca 22 straight from the kick-off. The visitors were caught offside and a quickly taken penalty by scrum half Tyler Mahoney saw Danny Clark link with centre Callum McDonald who raced over for a smart try. Clark converted to put Rumney ahead by 7 points to nil. Risca hit back immediately and sustained pressure saw the ball spun out to their No. 12 who crossed for a try converted by the Risca outside half to level the scores.  Good work by the Rumney forwards, with Owain Hill and Sean Murphy prominent, took play back into the Risca half. The ball was worked out to centre Dan Griffiths who put wing Dan Blackmore over wide out.  A well-taken conversion by Danny Clark took the score to 14 - 7 in Rumney's favour. The Rumney forwards were putting the visitors under some pressure and a good drive towards the Risca line saw No 8 Shane Young pick up and power over for a try converted by Danny Clark to see half time arrive with Rumney ahead by 21 points to 7.

The second half saw Rumney still intent on moving the ball and good work by the forwards provided quality ball for the backs. Prop Jack McAdam and lock Andrew Davies worked hard and flanker Leigh Jones put in some powerful runs. No 8 Shane Young burst away again to hand on to centre Wayne Dacruz who fed wing Scott Cope who did well to force his way over in the corner for an unconverted try. Leading by 26 points to 7, Rumney made some changes with Jake Sutton replacing Scott Cope, Jon De Lloyd coming on for Ryan Griffiths and Craig Cooke replacing Tyler Mahoney. Risca continued to take the game to Rumney and pressure inside the home 22m was only relieved by a superb clearance by Danny Clark, which took play up to the visitors 22m line. Carl Fish replaced Owain Hill at hooker and Rumney continued to attack. Centre Wayne Dacruz linked with Dan Griffiths before Leigh Jones burst over for an unconverted try. A problem in the Risca front row meant scrums going passive but still Rumney gained possession and Danny Clark put Wayne Dacruz away to link with No 8 Shane Young who crossed for his second try, converted by Danny Clark. Risca did not give up and took play back into the home half. They swiftly moved the ball along their backs and a good break by the Risca centre saw him race in near the posts for a converted try and take the final score to 38 points to 14.
