Tough Day for Rumney 1sts

Rumney travelled to the Joes in the Hope to get their season up and running!

From an early infringement, the Joes found themselves in front from a penalty 3-0. From the kick off and good pressure forced the joes to try to run out from their own 22, and a great turnover from Josh Bridson earnt Rumney a penalty which Dan Clark slotted over to level the scores 3-3.

From the kick off Rumney pack held onto the ball on the fall and gave the Joes the opportunity at another penalty which was slotted over to make the score 6-3. Again, further infringements resulted in the Joes kicking another penalty to make it 9-3.

Another penalty saw the Joes kick to the corner and from the lineout; the Joes drove over for a try which was converted to make the score 16-3

Rumney were dominate in the scrum throughout the game, and as a result of this dominance they were rewarded with a penalty which Dan Clark slotted over 16-6

Another penalty from a high tackle allowed Rumney outside half Dan Clark to kick another penalty 16-9.

A pick up at the base of the scrum saw an 8-9-14 move which sent the Joes wing down the blindside, good covering tackle from Calum MacDonald prevented another scoring opportunity. The was a period of pressure on the Rumney try line, and through good tackling from Joe Brown, Rob Rowley and Ryan Fenton Rumney was able to clear their lines.

Joes would then bring play back into the Rumney half and would butcher a try scoring opportunity with a cross-field kick not gathered in the corner and again Rumney was able to clear their line. Only to give away a penalty, which the Joes opted to put in the corner for a Driving line out, which was defended well by Rumney, the Joes continued to press towards the Rumney line. Chris Milton prevented a try, However the Ref felt Chris had killed the ball in the tackle and Chris was issued with a yellow card.

The Half ended with the scores at 16-9 to the Joes

The Second half kicked off and Rumney gave away an early penlty to the Joes which was slotted over 19-9.

Ryan Matthews (Dezzy) was introduced to the game and with his added weight in the scrum Rumney was able to tack even more dominate in the scrum, which was used to create a push over try 19-16.

Tyler Mahoney was introduced after the try and Rumney conceded a penalty from the kick off to allow the Joes another penalty which they kicked 22-16.

Rumney took dominance in the remaining period of the game, but they could not cross the line, through handling errors and errors at the scum. During this period, the Joes Hooker received a yellow card for a dangerously high tackle.

In the dying moments of the game, a handling error resulted in a kick chase the length of the field that Calum won, but he was turned over on the try line and the Joes crossed for their second try of the game that was converted.
